Getting Started
Set up your Coach Watts account, connect your devices, and get your first AI coaching insights.
Welcome to Coach Watts. This guide walks you from account creation through your first synced workout and AI recommendation.
Before you begin
You will need:
- A Coach Watts account (email sign-in)
- At least one data source — an activity platform (Strava, Garmin, or Intervals.icu) and ideally a recovery device (Oura, WHOOP, or Garmin wellness)
Step 1: Create your account
- Go to coachwatts.com and sign up with your email.
- Complete the onboarding consent screen:
- Accept the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy
- Enable Health Insights — required for AI coaching that uses heart rate, power, sleep, and other biometric data
- Click Let's Go to enter the app.
Health consent is separate from account creation. Without it, personalized coaching features stay limited.
Step 2: Connect your data
Open Settings → Apps (or use the connection cards on your Dashboard if you are new).
Recommended first connection
Intervals.icu is the fastest path to a complete coaching setup — it syncs activities, training zones, and your calendar in one step. The Dashboard onboarding view highlights this option first.
Alternative starting points
| Goal | Connect |
|---|---|
| Activity history from rides/runs | Strava or Garmin |
| Recovery & sleep context | Oura, WHOOP, or Garmin wellness |
| Training zones & calendar | Intervals.icu |
| Nutrition logging | Yazio |
Tip: Connect one activity source and one wellness source for the best AI recommendations. See the full Integrations guide.
Step 3: Set up your athlete profile
Go to Profile → Settings and configure:
- Basic — name, timezone, units (metric/imperial)
- Sports — your primary sports and threshold values (FTP, pace zones, heart rate zones)
- Measurements — weight and body metrics used in fueling calculations
- Availability — which days and time slots you can train (used when generating plans)
See Account & Profile Setup for details.
Step 4: Wait for your data to sync
After connecting an app:
- Coach Watts pulls your recent history automatically.
- Use the Sync button on the Dashboard header to force a refresh.
- New activities typically appear within minutes; initial backfill may take longer for large histories.
Once data arrives, your Dashboard populates with recovery status, training load, and today's guidance.
Step 5: Explore your first insights
| Page | What to look for |
|---|---|
| Dashboard | Morning check-in, wellness snapshot, training load |
| Activities | Synced workouts with AI analysis scores |
| Recommendations | Daily guidance on whether to train, modify, or rest |
| Chat | Ask your AI coach questions about your data |
Try these first prompts in Chat:
- "Summarize my training from the last two weeks."
- "How is my recovery looking today?"
- "What should I focus on this week?"

Troubleshooting
I connected an app but see no data
- Confirm the connection shows as Connected under Settings → Apps
- Click Sync on the Dashboard
- Check the integration-specific guide for OAuth or permission issues
Onboarding keeps redirecting me
Complete both consent checkboxes on the onboarding screen. If you already did, sign out and back in.
Strava is greyed out on the Dashboard
If Intervals.icu is connected, Strava may be disabled to avoid duplicate activities. Use Intervals.icu as your primary source, or disconnect Intervals.icu first if you prefer Strava directly.
